Events & Activities
Theme Day
Every Friday is dress-up day of some kind--Jersey Day, 60s Day, Uniform Day, Hawaiian Day, Backwards Day, Neon Day, etc. The variety of dress up days usually catches the interested of every student at least once, and you can even rack up points and have different teams or houses within the school.

Food Bank Drive
Each year at Olds High, a student calls the local foodbank to ask them what items they are in need of the most. From that we make a list which we turn into a Bingo Card. (See attachments with card & instructions.) We challenge each class to get at least one blackout by bringing all the items on the bingo card. The totals are tallied and the Most Generous Class at OHS gets a period off to load up all the food and take it to the foodbank and help sort it.
We then treat them to hot chocolate and cookies. Their picture is taken and sent to the local paper so they get the recognition they deserve. This activity has been very successful because instead of getting piles of tomatoe soup and KD, we get a variety of much needed items including diapers, laundry detergent and even pet food! The students can pool their money to get the more expensive items on the card. Some teachers even take their class to the store and divvy up the list and turn the activity into a math or economics lesson! The foodbank is always very appreciative of our support and we have fun!

Pep Rally
In the fall at Olds High, to recognize our athletes and promote school spirit, we put on a themed Pep Rally. This year we went with Remember the Spartans and showed clips from the movie throughout the rally. It is always a big hit and the students feel enthused and happy to be a Spartan! Mugs of Appreciation
OHS Student council recognized all staff with a customized travel mug.
We purchased travel mugs (with a clear plastic overlay) from the Dollar Store.
Advisors collected pictures and information from all staff members.
We asked the following questions:
1.What is your favorite color
2.Describe your hobbies and interests
3.What is your favorite quote
We also asked staff to submit a few of pictures of themselves.
We photocopied a template on the paper in their favorite color. Each template also stated "We appreciate all your do for OHS students".
We taped the pictures on the template and assembled the mugs. Caution: It a is very time consuming activity!! We incorporated stickers that symbolized the interest/hobby of the staff member (as stated on the memo). Mugs were then given to staff and much appreciated.

Midnight dice
•in a group, each person must have a piece of paper, one die and one pen/pencil
•the object of the game is for the one person rolling the die to get a 6 or 1 – while they are rolling, the person to their right is using the pen to write in numeric order 1 – 60.
•Once the roller gets a 1/6, the person to their left grabs the die, they grab the pen from the other person and start writing their own numbers.
•Have to start where left off (not from 1 or where the other person left off)
•first group to finish – ‘wins’ and should shout out loud! Here's
Looking at You •In a small group, stand shoulder to shoulder and link arms over the shoulder
•look down at your feet, then look at someone else’s feet – this is your commitment to looking at them in the eyes.
•Look at their feet – then move up their legs etc until you look them in the eye, if they are looking at you, then both of you scream “ahhhh” and are out.
•continue until there is only a couple of people left
•Cannot change direction of eyes/ move location of focus from leg etc.

Scene It
(Elephant Face)
•in a circle with a group, guide them to the creation of an elephant – use your hand to imitate an elephant’s trunk and trumphet at someone in the circle.
•that person must trumphet back and the people on either side of that person creates ears on either side.
•practice
(Charlie’s Angels)
•Introduce next ‘scene’ – Ask the question, “Who do you work for?”
•When asked of a person in the circle, the person puts up a ‘gun’ with their fingers in front of their face and answers “I work for Charlie”
•the two people on either side create guns and turn back to person in middle to finish the ‘scene’
(Viking Master)
•When asked “Who are you?”
•the person must put ‘antlers’ on their head and yell, “I am the Viking Master” while taking a step into the circle
•the TWO people on either side of the master must row to the outside of the boat as quickly as possible
Practice each ‘scene’ separately then do all three in quick succession – anyone who completes the wrong scene or does it incorrectly becomes the person in the middle of the circle calling the scenes.

•Ask the participants to name as many body parts as they can wherein the correct spelling they do not exceed 3 letters
•Give them 60 seconds to come up with the parts
•Ask how many they came up with (over 10, 20 etc.)
•Have them circle the common ones that you call out (hip, leg, arm, lip, eye, ear, …) and groan loudly if you mention one they didn’t have
•purpose that with the same instructions, with the help of others we can accomplish more

Partner Tag/Cyclops Tag
•have the group organize into pairs – the goal is to tag the other person as they are moving away.
•to start, the one who is “it” must turn around 3 times to give the target a head start.
•once they get caught, they say ‘gotcha’ and trade places
•after a few rounds, have the pair join up with another group to do the partner tag
•last variation is Cyclops tag where they have to put a ‘telescope’ over one eye/close the other and walk quickly by touching heel to toe of other foot.
"Gotcha"
With a partner each person holds out their right hand and index finger on their left to "get" the other person
•on the exact count of three they must try and grasp the finger of their opponent at the same time trying to stop their own finger from being grabbed.
•most will cheat and anticipate the ‘three’, discuss and do a few more rounds.

Switch and interview the other person with same/different question
•Have each partner then go back to back
•recall the information
•recall clothes they were wearing/colour of eyes etc.
Follow up:

◦Were your questions forward focused?

•at any time if you think you know who the eliminator is, you may accuse them – one other person must second your accusation. If you are right – yeah!, if wrong, you and the seconder are eliminated.
